Nearly New Sales

The Nearly New Sale

6 July 2013

The sale, held in the Church Hall and the Church, raised nearly £400 split equally between the School and Pre-school. In addition to this, we were also given a fantastic donation from Grace and Bob from the Fun Club, and we would like to say a great big thank you to them and also to everyone who has supported and helped out the sales in the past and present.

October 2012 - Nearly New Sale doubles profits!

St Teath's Nearly New Sale held on 6th October, proved to be the best yet! The fundraising initiative started by Sophie Broadhurst of St Teath over 5 years ago, has been constantly gaining momentum and growing in both size and reputation. As the job had become too big for one person, Sophie handed over the reins to a group of mums and teachers that represent both St Teath School and Pre-School and the team were determined to take it to a new level. 'We knew the event had great potential to make even more money as there was a huge waiting list of sellers desperate to get in on the action' explained Alex Harris, Pre-School mum 'the problem we faced was not being able to fit any more in the Church Hall. After a team brainstorming session, we came up with the idea of using St Teath Church as a second venue. We approached Yvonne Tew of the PCC who kindly took the suggestion to the committee and it was agreed that we could go ahead with our plan' finished Alex.

The two venues were split with items for 0-3 years in the Church and 3-12 years in the Church Hall; this created a more relaxed atmosphere for the buyers and encouraged them to spend more.

The team also made the brave decision to increase the seller/charity ratio so that the schools would receive a higher rate of profit from sales made. 'The great thing about the Nearly New Sale is that you are able recycle clothes and toys that your children no longer use, make a bit of money back and know that you're helping to support the local community at the same time' stated Karen Prideaux, School mum. 'Everything we sell has to be of good standard and so buyers can guarantee they will be able to pick up some real bargains and a few early Christmas presents!' continues Karen.

The Nearly New Sale now has a loyal following on Facebook with 436 friends, who can keep up to date with sale details and also pick up larger or more expensive items in advance of the sale. Justine Smale who looks after the social media was delighted that items posted on Facebook sold in advance of this year's sale. 'It's great to create a bit of a buzz about an event and Facebook gives us the freedom to do this, reaching a wide audience for free. Anyone who is keen to know more about how the sale works or would like to sell at the next sale should contact us through Facebook at 'nearlynewsale' or call 01208 851548.

Sarah Morey, St Teath Pre-School Office Manager continues 'Social media and the extra advertising helped to encourage more people through the door and we believe that nearly 100 adults attended Saturday's sale. Better still, we raised in excess of £500 which will be split equally between the School and Pre-School which is the much needed boost we all need to our fundraising. The Nearly New Sale Team would like to say a huge thank you to all the helpers and volunteers that helped to make the sale happen and would like to say a special thank you to Yvonne Tew and the PCC who helped to make the Nearly New Sale a great success.
