Rev Jem Thorold's Farewell
Sunday, 30 August, 2009
Friends from St. Teath were joined by members from four congregations to say goodbye to Sue and Jem Thorold who has been appointed priest in charge at Menheniot, Quethiock and Merrymeet.
It may be only two years since they came to live in the village but the packed church hall proved how popular they have become in that short time. Jem has admitted it was a very difficult decision to move away and many people from St. Teath and from the churches of Delabole, Advent, Lanteglos and Camelford will miss them.
To give everyone chance to say goodbye church wardens arranged a special lunch when gifts were presented on behalf of all their friends, and Sue and Jem ceremoniously cut two cakes, made especially for them by Laura Strachan, appropriately decorated with "Good Luck Jem and Sue".
As well as his work as assistant priest in charge, which has included regular visits to many people in need of his support, Jem has been a leading player in St. Teath pantomimes. Sue has been a member of the W.I. and of the Village Lunch team. They have both been regular supporters of village events. As one friend at the lunch said: "We will miss them far more than they realise".
